Peru poll: Toledo drops to 4th in presidential race, leftist ex-officer holds lead
By The Associated Press – 6 hours ago

LIMA, Peru — Leftist former army officer Ollanta Humala was favoured by 31.9 per cent of voters in a poll released just two days ahead of Peru's presidential elections. Keiko Fujimori, daughter of an imprisoned former president, was second with 22.3 per cent.

Alejandro Toledo, Peru's president from 2001-2006, slipped into fourth place in the Datum poll, to 15.3 per cent, behind his ex-economy and prime minister, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, with 17.3 per cent.

If neither candidate wins an outright majority on Sunday, the two top vote-getters will meet in a June runoff.

The poll of 4,522 people was conducted April 5-7 and has an error margin of 1.4 percentage points. Peruvian law prohibits publishing opinion polls domestically in the campaign's last week.
